| Medthin products offer protection for biomaterials in a variety of ways. When TiN is applied to Ti-6-4 fixation devices such as plates and screws and to implanted devices such as hip stems, the fretting corrosion that takes place between tissue and device is substantially reduced or eliminated. Ion release from implanted metallic devices is a major concern, however, Medthin coatings applied to materials such as Cobalt Chrome and Titanium 3-18 alloys will significantly reduce the metal ion release from the base material. When applied to stainless steel instrument they provide a corrosion resistant barrier layer that can withstand autoclaving in de-ionised water and vaporised phase alcohol. |
